Well Sanford is a hypocrite. But he is also someone who has spoken out against rampant spending and the Nanny state that Obama is ramming down everyone's throats. His adultery makes him a hypocrite, but it doesn't negate the validity of fiscal responsibility, low taxes, a free market, and so on.

Nor does it undo socially conservative ideas about morality and marriage and religion.

All it does is ruin his political career, which might have been promising, and prove him a hypocrite.

Now if he would just lie under oath and get impeached he could have almost the same resume as Bill Clinton.

@ Adam, conservatism is being attacked because the most fun any hypocrite can have is to point out hypocrisy in others. We on the right do it to the left all the time. They're getting a moment to themselves. It'll pass.

What was the deal with making up some elaborate story about hiking in the mountains? That was beyond bizarre. And of course, the predictable bludgeons are being wielded to smash conservatism, as if adultery is somehow part and parcel to it.

I'd have to say however that if there is anything in Washington that is bipartisan, it's having a mistress.
