thats a whole bunch of democrats going, Waaaaaahhhhhh, Waaaaaahhh, Waahh, now we will see the same, a bunch of Repubs going waaahhhh, waaaaahhhh, waaaaahhh.
I can't wait for some group of Repubs and Demo's to submit legislation to do away with this.
Bet it doesn't pass...... Regardless of who controls.
I heard a good little quip the other day that went something like this: When you support a government entitlement or take over, is it something you will still support if the other party were in charge? Because the other party will inevitably be in charge.
So, would liberals be so enthusiastic if John McCain had overseen the passing of the stimulus bill? What about health care? If an R controlled government were proposing the exact same HC policies that the D's are now, would liberals and democrats be so insistent about the urgency and inevitability of such legislation?
I think we all know the answer to those questions. Which begs one more question:
Why are any of us supporting these massive, intrusive boondoggles to begin with?
Interesting question, and it's a hard one to speculate on as politicians do such a poor job of giving insights into their real motives. It's all questionable.
You have two options, both of which are likely contributors:
1) President Obama really believes in government healthcare and in the virtues of a "wise, prudent government" even as he claims to believe in the virtues of the free market. Whatever. If that's the case, he means it when he says that he'd rather have a first term that gets this stuff done than get elected to a second term without accomplishing this stuff. In an odd way that's terrified of the implications, I respect that.
2) The Congressional Dems are making a massive miscalculation as to what will ultimately get them re-elected. They're feeling the heat of having griped and cried during the Bush terms and of having little if anything to show for an unprecedented supermajority in both houses. They're so deluded that they've made this an ideological rallying cry and are falling on their swords in attempt to martyr themselves. Yes, I'm aware that that's a contradiction. That's what makes it so weird.
